  1. Outlet and wall switch insulation kits are available, inexpensive, and easy to install. Remove an outlet cover on a windy day. You’ll probably feel a bit of air moving. They DO make an improvement.

  2. energy efficient steps 1:
    – insulate your house (roof first, then walls/floors).
    – use natural gas heat or wood stoves/inserts to help heat your house. Don’t use a heat pump unless you have the money for solar or have around 10 cents a kw energy prices or less.
    – heat pump water heaters are good alternatives if you dont have nat gas to operate the instant water heaters mentioned here. But they heat water a long time (5-6 hours) and they cool/dehumidify the space they occupy. A basement is not bad spot for them since most basements are constant 50+ degrees (the lowest temperature the heat pump models can operate at.)
    – if you can, unplug appliances or hook them up to a power strip you can turn off easily. but overally its peanuts except for appliances over 500W. you will waste more mental energy with anxiety trying to remember to turn off everything than its worth in saving you 100$ a year lol (youll spend more on the therapists to tell you to stop worrying about this stuff).
    – do use LED light bulbs. But outside of heating/fridge/cooking, you are looking at peanuts in energy savings. Same goes for alot of these tips. Spend your money on a good air fryer/microwave/electric kettle to reheat your food/water, they cost 0-10$ a month each to operate 3-4 hours a day versus 60-100$ for a stove at its highest setting. Augment any electric heat with a secondary fuel source (helps in outages too) and use a chest freezer for long term storage of any food so you can lower your freezer temp on your fridge.

Outside of that, its up to your state/energy company to figure out a more sustainable future for energy. If demand stays high, maybe we need more dams/nuke power plants or large solar farms instead of forcing people to do weird energy saving tips lol.
